Ocean-Themed Graham Crackers  

Sweet Supplies:

  • Graham Crackers  
  • Zipper-Seal Plastic BagorPiping Bags  
  • Goldfish Crackers  
  • Vanilla Icing Blue and Green Food Coloring
  • 3 Small Mixing Bowls 

Directions:  

  • Lay graham crackers on a flat surface.
  • Place two graham crackers into a zipper-seal bag, seal it closed, and crush the crackers into crumbs. Set aside. 
  • In two separate bowls, mix a few drops of blue and green food coloring with vanilla icing. Reserve a third small bowl of white vanilla icing.
  • Spread the blue icing onto the graham cracker sheets to form the water.
  • Use your fingers to sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs on the bottom of the blue icing, forming the sand.
  • Spoon the green icing into a piping bag or zipper-seal plastic bag and seal or twist it closed. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag to allow icing to be piped.
  • Place goldfish crackers on the blue icing.
  • Pipe green icing to create seaweed above the sand.
  • Spoon white icing into a piping bag and seal or twist it closed. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag to pipe white dots from the goldfish to create bubbles.
  • Plate your ocean-themed creations and start snacking!

Marine Biologist: Marine biologists study a wide variety of ocean creatures, from tiny plankton to massive whales! It is common for marine biologists to focus on, or specialize in, studying a particular species.

Career Examples: Environmental engineer, research biologist, aquarist, oceanographer, fishery biologist, program manager, professor

CHALLENGE OF THE DAY:

Can you help get rid of the oil spills in the ocean?

  

YOU WILL NEED :

  • 2 Tin Pans 
  • Water  
  • Vegetable Oil  
  • Dawn Dish Soap  
  • Medicine Dropper  
  • Spoon 
  • Paper Towels  
  • Cotton Balls 

Instructions:

STEP 1: Fill the tin pan/ tray half full of water. 

STEP 2: Pour oil into the water.  

STEP 3: Try different ways to clean up the oil. Can you use the cotton balls? The paper towels? How about the spoon to scoop out the oil?  

STEP 4: Lastly, try using the Dawn Dish Soap. 

For more fun set a timer and see how much oil is recollected at the end of the given time!
