ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

August 6, 1961The Flying Saucers attraction opens in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland.

Guests control the crafts, which float on powerful jets of air, by leaning to one side or the other. The saucers float just inches above a 16,000 sq. ft. arena.

IT'S A CELEBRATION:

August 6th is National Fresh Breath Day

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT:

Today’s activity comes from the MusicMakers program and is called Partner Juggle. You will learn to follow a musical beat by juggling a ball. Grab a ball, some music, and your family, and pair in groups of two. If you have more than one ball in the house, each group can have a ball and you can create a challenge of who can juggle to the beat the longest before calling “Pass”.

Start by playing a song of your choice. My favorite song to use for this activity is “Friendship Train” by Gladys Knight and the Pips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvj5df224C8

Pat a steady pulse on your knees, using both of your hands in unison. Once you are comfortable with that beat, change to patting the pulse on your knees with alternating hands.

Once everyone can pat the pulse using alternating hands, juggle a ball from one hand to the other in time with the music. When you call “Pass,” you should pass the ball to your partner.

DAILY CHALLENGE:
