CURRENT EVENT:

It is officially SUMMER – even though Ms. Anastasia has on a sweatshirt …

This week we are discussing three ways to make sure you stay safe while enjoying a little (or a lot) of fun in the sun. Summer 2020 is going to be a bit different; as always we want to know how all this makes you feel!

Use the link below to share your thoughts!

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

On this day in 1948, the first six enlisted women sworn into Regular Navy. The Navy WAVES in Naval Reserve, who were the first to transfer to the Regular Navy, were Kay Louise Langdon, Aviation Storekeeper First Class; Wilma Juanita Marchal, Chief Yeoman; Frances Teresa Dovaney, Storekeeper, Second Class; Edna Earle Young, Yeoman, Second Class; Doris Roberta Robertson, Teleman, Second Class; and Ruth Flora, Hospital Corpsman, First Class.

IT'S A CELEBRATION:

July 7th is National Strawberry Sundae Day

It is time to indulge on National Strawberry Sundae Day. Each year on this day, Americans combine vanilla or strawberry ice cream, strawberry sauce, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. Make several strawberry sundaes, and enjoy this delicious treat with friends and family.

While the oldest known record of an ice cream sundae is an Ithaca, NY advertisement, the originator of the dessert is coolly debated. The October 5, 1892 ad in the Ithaca Daily Journal spelled the ice cream treat with the conventional day of the week spelling – Sunday.

BRAIN TEASER:

The Empty Triangle

Which figure should be placed in the empty triangle?

Monday, July 6th Answer: NO

There are not gray dots in this grid. However “ghostlike” gray blobs are perceived at the intersections of the white lines. The gray dots disappear when looking directly at an intersection. This illusion can be explained by a neural process happening in the visual system called lateral inhibition (the capacity of an active neuron to reduce the activity of its neighbors).

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT:

Chart the Course

As leaders it is important to stay focused on the intended outcome or goal.

Today we learn how to establish a clear course of action! This week is all about leadership!

Remember, this is a journey not a race. Learning leadership takes time and has lot of action steps.

Head on over to My.Future for this activity and you can even use your cellphone to earn these badges!
